Community Outreach, Educational & Therapy

At LUOSKO, our work doesn’t stop at the rescue gates—our mission extends deep into the heart of our community.

We believe that education and connection are just as important as rescue and rehabilitation, which is why our community outreach programmes are such a vital part of what we do.

Through our educational visits, we work closely with schools, colleges, youth groups, and community organisations to deliver engaging, age-appropriate sessions that teach about responsible pet ownership, animal welfare, canine communication, and safety around dogs.

These sessions help young people understand the lifelong commitment that comes with owning a dog, as well as the consequences of neglect, abandonment, and poor breeding practices. We aim to inspire empathy, encourage compassion, and equip the next generation with the knowledge and respect needed to build positive relationships with animals. We also welcome group visits to our rescue centre, giving young people the opportunity to meet the dogs and learn first-hand about their care, needs, and recovery journey.

Alongside our educational work, we also provide therapy dog visits to local residential care homes, including Coopers Croft and Belong, where the presence of our calm, friendly dogs brings immeasurable joy to residents.

For many, especially those living with dementia or facing isolation, these visits offer emotional comfort, reduce stress and anxiety, and spark precious memories. The simple act of stroking a dog, feeling their warmth, or watching their gentle behaviour can lift spirits and create a deep sense of connection—something that’s often hard to come by in a care home setting.

These outreach programmes not only enrich the lives of people in our community but also provide invaluable enrichment and socialisation opportunities for our rescue dogs. It helps them build confidence, trust, and adaptability, all of which make them more rehomable. It’s a beautiful two-way street—the dogs help people, and people help the dogs.

We’re incredibly proud of the impact our outreach work has, and it’s a growing part of LUOSKO’s vision for the future. By combining rescue with education, therapy, and meaningful human connection, we’re not just changing the lives of dogs—we’re changing the lives of people, too.
