Foster Homes

What happens if my foster dog has any issues or does not work out?

At LUOSKO, we take great care in matching each dog to the most suitable foster home based on our assessments. However, it’s important to remember that we can’t always predict exactly how a dog will behave once they’re in a home environment. Like people, dogs often show different behaviours once they begin to settle, and sometimes challenges can arise—whether they’re related to training, behaviour, or medical needs.

If something unexpected does come up that’s outside your experience, you won’t be alone. Our Foster Team is always here to support you, and you’ll have full access to guidance from our qualified behaviourist based at the rescue centre.

In some cases, despite everyone’s best efforts, a foster placement may not work out. If that happens, we’ll make arrangements to bring the dog back to our rescue centre as quickly and practically as possible, with the least stress to both you and the dog.

We understand fostering can have its ups and downs—but it’s also one of the most rewarding ways to change a dog’s life. And we’ll be with you every step of the way.

I already foster for another rescue - can I foster for LUOSKO Rescue as well?

At LUOSKO, we kindly ask that our foster homes remain exclusive to our rescue. This helps us build a strong, trusting relationship with you and allows us to better understand your capabilities, preferences, and the type of dogs best suited to your home. By working closely together, we can ensure each foster placement is a good match—for both you and the dog—and provide the consistency and support needed to give every dog the best possible start on their journey to a forever home.

Where are your foster homes located?

Our foster homes are all in the UK ideally within 1 hour of our centre to ensure that we can provide training and support as effectively and as efficiently as possible. Foster carers will need their own transport and should be within one hour's travelling time of our rescue centre.

Can I adopt my foster dog?

Yes—if you let us know within the first 7 days of their placement, you can absolutely be considered as their potential forever home. However, we do encourage our foster homes to remain as foster homes, as this allows us to help more dogs in need by keeping those spaces open for future rescues.

That said, if a dog has been in your care for more than 12 months, you may be given first refusal should they become ready for adoption. We recognise the strong bond that can form over time and will always prioritise what’s in the best interest of both you and the dog.
